clareAvatar2I am a social worker/counsellor and ACT therapist. My practice is based on a strong evidence base which supports people to live the life they choose, determining their life direction to find a more rewarding, fulfilling and enriched life.

I work in the Western suburbs of Brisbane, and have been providing counselling support to children, young people, their families, and adults since 1995.

I use a range of evidence based therapies and interventions including Expressive Therapies, Sandplay therapy, Play Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) to support and fit the needs of children and young people, and support them and their families with the issues and pressures they are facing, whether it is from peers, home, or school. The various counselling methods used can support children, and young people to develop specific strategies and tools that will teach them how to manage stress and other difficult feelings, build resilience, and feel happier and healthier to take through into their adulthood.

My work with adults focuses on providing a space that clients can learn to cope effectively with issues, feelings and painful thoughts that might get in the way of living the rich, fulfilling and meaningful life they would like. The various approaches used include ACT, Trauma Focused Therapy, Mindfulness based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Solution Focused Therapy, Expressive Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.

I always aim to provide a safe, calm and respectful space so that clients are able to work with the often difficult and painful thoughts and feelings they may experience.

I have worked in Non-Government Organisations with Domestic and Sexual Violence Services, in Out-of-Home Care managing a variety of Counselling Programs working with children and young people from two years up to 18 years, and women and children who have experienced trauma and abuse. I also provide training and supervision to other professionals.

I have witnessed many adults, young people and children let go of the struggle with often very complex and extreme trauma responses, to shift to a place of rich and rewarding experiences.
