There are many feelings and painful thoughts we try and avoid and struggle with. ACT is an evidence based approach that aims to support us to find enrichment; fulfilment and meaning in our lives whilst dealing with the painful thoughts and feelings we often try to avoid. ACT can help us learn to accept that we have painful thoughts and feelings, and support us in gaining clarity when exploring what we want in our lives now, and in the future. I have witnessed many adults, young people and children let go of the struggle with often very complex and extreme responses, to shift to a place of rich and rewarding experiences, and feelings of fulfilment and wellbeing.
By exploring mindfulness techniques and ACT strategies, I am able to teach you effective strategies that will support you with issues such as:
- Stress and worry
- Chronic pain
- Physical health-related problems
- Negative thinking and self-doubt
- Body image
- Self esteem
- Grief and loss
- Unhelpful habits
- Losing weight (focusing on your physical wellbeing)
- Adjustment disorder
If you are looking at learning some new techniques, and you feel that you need more than one or two sessions, and that the issues or problems have been with you for a while, you can consider going to your GP to get a Better Access Mental Health Care Plan (based on eligibility) which is subsidised by Medicare. The plan will entitle you to ten counselling sessions per calendar year.
If you do not have a Mental Health Care Plan, you are able to come and see me directly.
